Shooting in Downtown Kankakee

Kankakee City Police and the Sheriff’s office continue to work on an active shooter incident in downtown Kankakee. County Sheriff Mike Downey says it was around 10 this morning when shots rang out between two groups of people just south of the courthouse and north of the old county jail. Early reports say at least two people have died in the gunfire and others have been sent to the hospital. I do have confirmation that none of the deceased were police officers, but little else is known at this time. We’ll have more on this story for you as details become available.
