The Kankakee County Board held a special meeting Wednesday morning. As part of the meeting, the Board voted to join McHenry County in litigation against the State because of the new State law forbidding local governments from housing federal ICE detainees. In previous County Board meetings, it has been said the passage of that law was an unconstitutional restriction of interstate trade. County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler:

The County Board voted unanimously to join the litigation. The lawsuit is expected to be filed this afternoon. The county stands to lose some five-million dollars if ICE detainees are no longer housed at the Jerome Combs Detention Center.
