The Kankakee City Council rejected a push by Mayor Chris Curtis to slow the growth of video gaming cafes. An ordinance was brought to the the council that would put a moratorium on issuing liquor licenses to such businesses until April of 2022, but members failed to move it from first to second reading for passage. The vote was evenly split, 6 to 6 with one abstention. Mayor Curtis believes some thought needs to be given to how many such establishments should be allowed to operate in Kankakee.
The Mayor says the ordinance will be brought back to the council in 2 weeks for an up or down vote
