State and Federal Authorities say they have reached an agreement with Gibson Area Hospital over healthcare fraud claims. In a press release, the US Department of Justice says Gibson Area Hospital has agreed to pay some 292-thousand-dollars to resolved allegations the hospital violated the “False Claims Act” by failing to return overpayments it got between march ninth 2014 and March 24th 2020 from Medicare, Medicaid and other governmental programs. The government claimed the hospital had a habit of keeping overpayments that were less then 10 dollars, more than one year old, were duplicate payments or where the payer hadn’t asked for a refund at least three times. Gibson Area Hospital has reportedly agreed to pay the federal government about 208-thousand-dollars and the State of Illinois about 84-thousand-dollars.
