Overdoes deaths continue to be a problem in Kankakee County. County Coroner Bob Gessner shares 2021 statistics with us for the year that just wrapped up November 30th.
Gessner said most overdose deaths in 2021 came from Fentanyl with 78 percent of overdose deaths in the county attributed to Fentanyl, while 46 percent involved cocaine and 15 percent included heroin. Gessner added that without the use of the antidote Narcan, which many in the law enforcement community carry when on duty, there would have been somewhere near 61 deaths from overdose this year, which would have been a record. Gessner shared some other statistics with us
Gessner said that number compares to just 10 deaths attributed to suicide in 2021. You can find a complete look at the local numbers at KankakeeCountyCoroner.org
