It took a rare vote from the Mayor, but during last night’s Kankakee City Council meeting, aldermen did approve a homeless shelter for veterans. The project will be funded entirely by a grant that means no cost to the taxpayers of Kankakee. Mayor Chris Curtis says he respects the vote in opposition to the project by 4 aldermen, which with one absent last night, required his vote to approve.
6th Ward Alderman Michael Cobb pointed out that the Manteno Veterans Home is not at capacity in voting against the Kankakee project which will house up to 14 veterans and be located in the 200 block of South Washington.
