HAZMAT Spill Closes Rt 50 in Kankakee

A hazardous materials spill closed Route 50 in Kankakee for nearly a day over the weekend. The spill happened Friday evening as a semi tanker left a plant on Fair Street. The tanker had an unsecured hatch, which caused it to lose somewhere between 50 and 350 gallons of material. A HAZMAT team was called in and Route 50  had to be blocked from Harrison and Fair to Grinnell and Hobbie until the spill could be cleaned up. It reopened late Saturday afternoon.
