Bridge work begins today

The Illinois Department of Transportation says work will start today on the project to replace the Maple Street/Waldron Road bridge over I-57. As a result, traffic in the area will be down to one lane, controlled by temporary signals. IDOT says the bridge will be widened as part of the project. Another project to widen I57 from four to six lanes between the river and North Street is expected to begin next Monday, reducing traffic in that area down to one lane in each direction.
