The Kankakee Public Library, in collaboration with the City of Kankakee and Downtown Kankakee, will host their 18th annual Lion Wreathing and Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, December 5th. It kicks off at 5:30pm at the Kankakee Library where two lucky kids will be chosen to help Mayor Curtis put wreaths on the historic lion statues near the entrance. Attendees will then stroll over to Kankakee’s Harold & Jean Miner Festival Square for the lighting of the city’s 30-foot Christmas tree by the train depot fountain. There will also be musical entertainment, photos with Santa and two of his live reindeer, along with costumed characters, cookies and hot chocolate. This event, which wraps up around 8pm, is free to attend and all ages are welcome.
