We have a few more details now in the incident yesterday afternoon that ended with a car in the Kankakee River. Kankakee City Police report they were called to a home in the 300 block of South May just before three Thursday afternoon for a report of shots fired. When they got there, officers talked to three people who told them they’d heard gunfire and some of the rounds had nearly hit them. Officers say video footage showed a gray car pulled up in front of the home and those inside the car shot at the home before leaving the scene. Just after three, Kankakee Fire was called to the River near the Station Street Bridge for a car that had been driven into the river. Once pulled from the water, the car turned out to be a gray Chrysler 200 reportedly stolen during a home invasion in Indianapolis. No one was in the car when it was pulled from the river and officials say they believe it was intentionally rolled into the drink. City Police ask anyone in the area that might have surveillance footage of the incident call their office.

Officers reportedly stopped the car driven by 25-year-old Dandre Wilson of Bourbonnais for a traffic violation. A search of Wilson reportedly turned up a handgun that Wilson allegedly told police he needed for protection. Officers say it’s unknown at this time if the two incidents are related. Wilson was arrested by City Police for Aggravated Unlawful use of a weapon among other firearms violations.
