Firefighters on scene of a fire in the 700 block of North 5th Avenue in Kankakee

Several local fire departments are on the scene of a fire in an apartment building in the 700 block of North 5th Avenue in Kankakee. City Fire reports the building is “fully involved” with heavy fire has been reported from the basement to the roof of the building. Firefighters reportedly not only battling the fire, but also working to keep it from spreading to other nearby buildings. The building was the scene of a small fire last Thursday with that fire contained to the entryway of the building at that time.
