DeMotte Indiana Man Dies in Car vs Train Crash

A 30-year-old Demotte Indiana man is dead following a car/train collision at Route 50 and County Line Road between Manteno and Peotone last night. Deputy Kankakee County Coroner Eric Cavender says Robert O’Connell was the only person in the car when it was hit by a southbound Amtrak train about five last night. O’Connell had to be cut from his car and was taken to Amita St. Mary’s Hospital where he died of his injuries. It’e believed all 143 people on board the train were okay with just minor bumps and bruises. The Will County Sheriff’s Office, Canadian National Railroad Police and Amtrak continue to investigate the crash.
