We’re starting to see census data for Kankakee County and the numbers aren’t good. Over the weekend, the Kankakee Count Board released data that showed the County lost nearly six-thousand people over the last decade, a loss of over five percent of the population. Reacting to the data, Count Board Chairman Andy Wheeler said while it wasn’t a surprise it’s still disappointing to see the downward trend:
Wheeler said the County Board will look at the numbers to see what’s next:
Only Essex, Manteno and Reddick saw increased populations over the last 10 years, while the City of Kankakee saw the biggest drop of in population. Kankakee lost nearly 35-hundred people over the past decade, a decrease of more than 12-and-a-half percent. You can find more on the 2020 census at census.gov
