Kankakee County State’s Attorney Jim Rowe has asked for a special prosecutor to be assigned to look into the shooting last Thursday near the Kankakee County Courthouse. On his Facebook Page, Rowe says the special prosecutor is needed because about half of the employees in the State’s Attorney’s Office witnessed the shooting as it unfolded. Rowe says the prosecutor is needed to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest since some of those from the State’s Attorney’s Office could be called as witnesses. The request will be reviewed by the State’s Attorney’s Appellate Prosecutors Office before a decision is made. Two people were killed, another seriously injured when gunfire broke out just south of the Courthouse about 9:15 Thursday morning. Miguel Andrade has been charged with murder in the case.
