At a ceremony today in Paxton a portion of Rt. 9 between South Washington and High Streets was designated Trooper Marvin C. Archer Memorial Road. In 1946, Archer and his partner stopped a stolen car in Paxton when a gunfight erupted. One of the two suspects in the car shot and killed Archer as the other suspect fled. The second suspect was later killed by police in Gifford after a chase. Relatives of Archer along with local and state lawmakers were on hand for the official dedication today.
