Several Indiana State Police Troopers from the Lowell, Indiana Post were singled out at last weekend’s Annual Indiana State Police awards and recognition ceremony in Indianapolis. A Combat Action Award and a Purple Heart award went to Trooper Dennis Griffin. Griffin and fellow Trooper Alaa Hamed stopped a carjacking suspect in Jasper County in June of last year. The suspect got out of the vehicle and started firing a rifle at both officers, striking Griffin. Hamed returned fire and brought down the shooter. Hamed was also given a Combat Action Award. A Lifesaving Award went to Trooper William Stancy for his work in saving the life of a severely injured motorcycle crash victim. And Trooper John Landowski took home the Trooper of the District Award for 2020.
