Thaw your Turkey Day (Audio)

Nov 18, 2021 | 7:32 AM
Today is national thaw your turkey day. While perhaps not nationally recognized, it is the date the folks at Butterball suggest you put your turkey in the fridge to make sure it’s thawed in time for the big day. Bill Nolan is a supervisor with the Butterball Turkey Talk line in Naperville and he says if you haven’t done it yet, it’s time to go buy that bird and start it thawing

It’s the 40th anniversary for the turkey talk line and Nolan says the most common turkey they get is what’s the best way to thaw a turkey. He says the best way is to get it in the fridge about a week ahead of time and let it thaw there. Nolan says if you find yourself a day or two out of Thanksgiving and your turkey isn’t thawed they do have another suggestion

Nolan says using that method thaws about a pound of turkey every 30 minutes while sticking it in the fridge ahead of time thaws about four pounds every day.  And what’s the strangest question he’s heard in his time with the talk line?

Nolan adds if you have a question for the Butterball turkey talk line, they’re there eight til eight Monday through Friday and they’ll even be manning the phones this weekend and Thanksgiving Day. They’re available by phone, text and on social media
