Railroad crossing safety in Kankakee County will be improved over the next 18 months. The Illinois Commerce commission says four crossings will be getting new automatic flashing light signals and gates. All four crossings are on the Norfolk and Southern line. The crossings are on State Line Road, County Highway 52, Metcalf Road and 4000 East Road. The cost of the improvements will be 1.4 million dollars with the most of the funds coming from The Illinois Grade Crossing Protection Fund. The railroad will pick up the rest of the cost.
