Illinois State Police in Ashkum have announced they’ll conduct Special Traffic Enforcement or sTEP patrols tonight in Kankakee, Ford and Iroquois Counties. Troopers say the special patrols are designed to prevent crashes and fatalities by focusing on people that are driving under the influence, driving without proper restraint, speeding or distracted driving. State Police say you’ll see increased activity because of the increased patrols. Officials say the special patrols are paid for through funding from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
