Kankakee City Police report a pair of gun-related incidents Sunday. According to reports, just after two Sunday morning officers were called to the 300 block of South West Avenue because a group of people had gathered in a lot there. While on their way to the address, officers were told a man on the property may have a gun. When they got there, police say they saw a man walking toward a pick-up truck and told him to stop. Officers say they could see a baggie of suspected cannabis on the center console of the truck and when asked if he had anything on him, the man, later identified as 32-year-old Anthony Crutcher, allegedly told the police he had “weed” and pointed toward the bag in the truck. Police say Crutcher also told them he was carrying a firearm in the truck. A search of the truck allegedly turned up the handgun and a folded dollar bill with a white powdery substance on it. Crutcher was taken to the Jerome Combs Detention Center, charged with unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Just before seven Sunday night, City Police were called to the 17-hundred block of East Maple for a report of shots fired. When they got there, officers talked to the owner of a store who said his building had been damaged by gunfire. Several empty shell casings were found in a nearby alley and several bullet holes in the building. There were no reports of injuries during the shooting.
