Dec 20, 2021 | 9:56 AM
The Brook-Iroquois Township Volunteer Fire Department and the Morocco Fire Department were called to a fire at the Cascades Egg Carton Manufacturing facility north of Brook about 3:15 yesterday afternoon. When they got there, firefighters say they found thick smoke inside the building and employees battling the blaze. Once all the employees were out, firefighters from Brook, Morocco and Rensselaer put the fire out while ambulances from Newton and jasper Counties took care of employees suffering from smoke inhalation. Four of those employees had to be taken to the hospital for further treatment. Brook-Iroquois Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Kyle Conrad says this is the second time this year firefighters have been called the facility.
