Feb 1, 2022 | 5:00 PM

Nancy Rish, convicted along with Danny Edwards in the 1987 killing of Steven Small in Kankakee was in Kankakee County Court today in her continuing effort to be resentenced, both are doing life behind bars. Jim Riding, who wrote the book Small Justice about the killing, says she got her wish today when the judge agreed to reduce her sentence to 70 years. And because In Illinois an inmate receives one day off their sentence for every day of good behavior served, she could be released soon after serving 35 years already. Riding says he believes Rish knew nothing about the plan to bury small in a box while Edwards demanded a 1 million dollar ransom from the Kankakee family.  Small died in the box when the breathing tube provided became clogged.  If you’d like a copy of the book, it’s available at Joy’s Hallmark in Meadowview and Bargain and Treasures on Kennedy Drive.
