Reaction is coming in to the announcement yesterday that former Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives Michael Madigan has been indicted by a federal grand jury.
79th District State Representative Jackie Haas says “the indictment…reminds us how deep the roots of corruption run in our state government” and says she “hopes this indictment is the wake-up call needed to propel the General Assembly towards making major strides towards ethics reforms”.
53rd District State Senator Jason Barickman called the indictment “another example of the need for stronger ethics standards and the continued need to root out corruption in Illinois government”.
38th District State Senator Sue Rezin said she hopes her “Democratic colleagues choose to take a tougher stance on public corruption and work”…”to create stronger ethics reforms, so the people of Illinois don’t have to rely on the federal government to hold Illinois officials accountable for their corruption”.
