The Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal has awarded two-point-five million-dollars to more that one-hundred fire departments and EMS providers across the state. The funding is part of the 2022 Small Equipment Grant Program, which was established to provide grants for the purchase of small firefighting and ambulance equipment. The purpose is to allow eligible applicants the opportunity to purchase small equipment that they may otherwise not be able to purchase. Area departments awarded funds from the grant include: the Roberts/Melvin Fire Protection District in Ford County, the Mazon Fire Protection District and South Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department in Grundy County, the Crescent/Iroquois Fire Department in Iroquois County, The City of Kankakee and Salina Township Fire Departments in Kankakee County, Dwight EMS in Livingston County and the Custer, Frankfort and Steger Estates Fire Departments in Will County. Each department was awarded up to 26-thousand dollars from the grant.
