With the sounding of Taps and a 21-gun salute, Kankakee County paused Monday morning to honor those killed while serving this country. The Kankakee County Veteran’s Council hosted a Memorial Day ceremony yesterday morning on the north lawn of the Kankakee County Courthouse. This year’s remembrance honored women who have served and died for our country. Among the speakers for the even was Kourtney Hopkins, Army Veteran and Senior Program Manager for the Illinois Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
Keynote speaker for the event was Kelly Frey, lead nurse at Riverside Medical Center and US Army Veteran
About 150 people turned out for yesterday’s observance, which included cadets from the Kankakee High School Junior ROTC
