Iroquois County Coroner Bill Cheatum has released the official cause of death for a 32-year-old Hoopeston man who died while in custody in the Iroquois County Jail last month. In a press release, Cheatum says a forensic pathologist ruled the death of Apolinar Solis Junior was caused by “acute toxicity of cocaine and methamphetamine due to cocaine and methamphetamine abuse”. Solis was found unresponsive at the Iroquois County Jail on May 12th after being booked into the jail earlier in the day for a warrant out of Newton County Indiana. A group calling itself the “Illinois Prisoner Rights Coalition” has called for the release of any video footage that might exist from the night of Solis death. Footage, they say is being withheld due to an active investigation by the Illinois State Police.
