Rensselaer PD arrest man for alleged tax fraud

Jun 20, 2022 | 10:14 AM

A Rensselaer Indiana man is under arrest on charges in connection with allegedly making fraudulent claims on his tax return. Rensselaer police say they were contacted in September of last year by someone saying 34-year-old Aaron Hovis had fraudulently claimed children he didn’t have on his tax return. An investigation by the Indiana Department of Revenue reportedly backed up that claim, and police allege that during the investigation Hovis offered a thousand dollars to the victim if she made a video saying she refused to testify in the case. Last Wednesday officers went to a home in the 700 block of East Grace Street in Rensselaer to arrest Hovis, who allegedly resisted arrest. Hovis was taken into custody on charges of tax evasion, bribery, intimidation and resisting arrest.
