Ambia Man Confesses to Abuse of a Corpse

An Ambia, Indiana man has reportedly confessed to cutting up the body of his girlfriend and stuffing the remains into garbage cans.  60 year old Edward Bagwell says he was smoking meth with Rita Spigner when she scratched him and he slapped her.  Bagwell goes on to say she then fell down and began convulsing.  He went to get his cell phone, when he returned she was not breathing. Bagwell told police he never called 911 because she was dead and they could not help.  Bagwell was arrested on July 3^rd when police went to the home for a welfare check where they found Spigner’s remains inside two large garbage bags.  An official cause of death will await the results of toxicology tests, but the coroner’s office does say Spigner had severe heart problems. Bagwell is charged with abuse of a corpse.   Ambia is east of Hoopeston, just across the state line.
