12 year old girl dies from gunshot wound

Kankakee City Police officers responded to a residence in the 2200 Block of West Bourbonnais Street concerning a gunshot victim at approximately 8:55pm on Friday night. According to a press release, upon arrival, officers located a 12 year old girl laying on the floor from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. She was transported to Riverside Medical Center where she later died as a result of her injury. At this time, it’s believed the 12-year-old victim located the unsecure firearm inside the residence and harmed herself with it.
