Fortitude Community Outreach considering plan to build a new shelter

Fortitude Community Outreach is replacing it’s plan to build a new shelter with a plan to buy an existing building instead. In a Facebook live video from last week, founder and executive director Doctor Dawn Broers said inflation is to blame. Broers says she has found an old church for sale in Kankakee that could potentially work for the Fortitude shelter. The Kankakee City Council would need to rezone the property first and approve it for sheltering in order to move forward.
