Governor Declares Monkeypox Emergency

The monkeypox virus is now considered a public health emergency in Illinois. Governor J.B. Pritzker announced the decision, along with declaring the state a disaster area regarding the disease.  The declaration allows the Illinois Department of Public Health to use resources for coordinating logistics across state agencies quickly and efficiently. Illinois has over 500 confirmed or presumptive cases, the third most in the country.
