Hari wants a Female Prison

Emily Claire Hari, formerly Michael B. Hari of Clarance, Illinois, has petitioned the federal district court in Urbana to force the Federal Bureau of Prisons to allow her to serve out her 53 year domestic terrorism sentence in a female prison.  Hari says in her filing that the feds still have her listed as a male even though she is transitioning to a female.  Hari is still being housed in the Livingston County Jail in Pontiac following her conviction for firebombing a mosque in Minnesota in 2017.  The Bureau of Justice says transgender inmates suffer sexual assaults at a rate 9 or 10 times higher than the general inmate population.   During sentencing the judge recommended that Hari serve her sentence at a female prison.
