The Kankakee County Health Department is reporting the area’s first case of Monkeypox. The health department says in a statement that they are working with the CDC, the patient and their healthcare provider to conduct contact tracing to identify any individuals who may have had contact with the patient while infectious. The health department says the risk to county residents is low as Monkepox does not spread easily between people without close contact especially with body fluids. Most people recover in a few weeks, but some cases can be severe.
