Kankakee City Council approves referendum

Aug 16, 2022 | 8:30 AM
The Kankakee City Council last night approved a resolution that will place a referendum on the Novermber General Election Ballot for residents to approve retention of the city’s home rule authority.  Mayor Chris Curtis says that taxing authority is critical to Kankakee being able to remain a vibrant community.

Curtis points out that automatic home rule applies to any community of 25,000 or greater, but communities that dip below that number can still have that designation.
