Kankakee City Police say they have a person in custody in connection with the shots fired incident Wednesday afternoon that sent a 17-year-old Kankakee High School student to the hospital. In a Facebook post City Police say they were called to the hospital just before three yesterday afternoon and found the victim who was in a car with two other teenagers when a firearm discharged, striking the victim. The driver of the car took the victim to the hospital for treatment. Originally, City Police said the incident happened in the parking lot at the High School, but in an updated post this morning officials say the teens were leaving the parking lot to get some food and the shooting happened somewhere between the school and while the car was traveling on Jeffery Street. Police say about six last night, the 17-year-old thought to have been responsible for the shooting wast taken into custody by City Detectives. Through their Facebook page, Kankakee School District 111 has invited people to a discussion about possible long-term solutions to gun issues. That’s scheduled to take place this evening in the High School auditorium after Fall preview night. Police say the gun involved in the shooting has yet to be recovered and ask anyone with information about the shooting call their office.
