Your Kankakee Count tax bill could go down next year. During this morning’s meeting of the County Board’s Finance Committee, County Finance Director Steve McCarty told the committee he and County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler have been discussing ways to give back to County taxpayers since the County is on a strong financial footing. Chairman Wheeler
Wheeler said what they came up with was a plan to abate next year’s taxes that would have been collected to pay on some bonds, then pay the bond off early, saving even more tax dollars
Wheeler added the only debt the County would have would be for the new Animal Control facility, which will be paid for using income from tags and fees. It’s not known what the move will mean to the average Kankakee Count homeowner. The idea was approved unanimously by the committee and goes on to the full County Board for consideration next month.
