Safe-T Act Got A Court Hearing in Kankakee Today

The SAFE-T Act had its day in court today. The controversial law which would eliminate cash bail, is set to take effect January first. Kankakee County State’s Attorney Jim Rowe, along with several State’s Attorneys across Illinois, have filed suit against the state, saying the state legislature didn’t follow the state constitution in passing the law. Since Rowe was the first in the state to file the lawsuit, Kankakee County was chosen as the site for the hearing when the suits were combined into one. In his opening statement today Rowe evoked the words of Martin Luther King Jr.
