The Leaning Turbine of Paxton

Engineers with RWE Renewables Americas Company are trying to determine what made a wind farm turbine begin to lean what appears to be some 5 to 10 degrees off plum.  The 400 foot leaning turbine of Paxton is located at the Pioneer Trail Wind Farm south of Rt. 6, between Paxton and Clarence. .  The tower began to lean Wednesday night in what the national weather service said were winds gusting to 30 miles an hour.  Company officials say the unit has been taken off line and there has been no damage to surrounding structures or property. They don’t yet know if the turbine can be repaired.
