West Nile in Kankakee County

Kankakee County has now joined some 30 counties in Illinois where West Nile Virus has been detected this summer.  The Kankakee County Health Department reports groups of mosquitoes collected from a trap in an unspecified part of the county have tested positive for West Nile.  The disease is transmitted by mosquitoes.  You’re advised to protect yourself when outside during the hours mosquitoes are most active with a repellent that includes deet and wear long sleeve shirts and long pants.  You should also eliminate all standing water from around the home to keep mosquito numbers down
