Braidwood Schools went on soft lock-down for a short time Thursday afternoon as police searched for a woman believed to be armed near I-55. The woman was one of three people in a vehicle wanted in connection with an aggravated battery in Peoria. The trio fled Grundy County Sheriff’s police but were stopped by a successful spike strip deployment on I-55 near Reed Road. Two of the vehicle’s occupants were arrested on the scene, but a woman thought to be armed ran for a nearby wooded area. That’s when police called for the school lock-down. She was found and arrested without incident a short time later and the lock-down was lifted.

The chiefs’ resignation was effective Tuesday.
