Bourbonnais officials may be rethinking plans for a special village census. According to the 2020 census the village lost 467 people, which was in contrast to what officials were expecting.   Their research indicated an increase of some 1800 residents.  Village officials say in the Daily Journal that the lower number could mean a loss of 1.1 million dollars in State and Federal tax dollars for the village.   But that recount could be costly.  The village has been told by Census official’s it will cost over half a million dollars and take some 18 months for results.  By then it will be 2026 and four more years from another nationwide census.  Village officials are now weighing the pros and cons before making a decision.
