City Police Make Drug and Weapons Arrest in Abandoned Home

Kankakee City police were searching what was supposed to be an abandoned home in the 100 block of North Greenwood about 4 this morning for a juvenile suspected in a domestic battery, when they came across a man and a woman laying down on an air mattress in the living room of the home.  On a stand next to the couple was a handgun and a container holding three small baggies of a white powdery substance.  The woman was released, but 34 year old Jerome Simms of Kankakee was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and armed violence for starters
