The much talked about The Safety Act was the main topic at today’s Kankakee County Criminal Justice Committee meeting. Now that the law has been on the books for a time, Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey related a stat that indicates a lot of alleged criminals are being released back onto the streets of Kankakee County almost immediately.
Downey also says the department’s Rent A Bed program numbers look good for the year.

Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner told the committee Wednesday they may have a lead on the identity of a body discovered in the county back in 2002. The body was exhumed yesterday for further investigation. No details were related.
