Kankakee City Fire battles overnight blaze

Jun 6, 2024 | 6:23 AM

Kankakee City Fire Department personnel were called to a house fire in the 300 block of North 9th overnight. Kankakee Fire Chief Brian LaRoche says the call came in about nine last night for a smell of smoke in the area. After searching the area, it was determined there was smoke coming from the house at 321 North 9th, which had a fire a few weeks ago. The house was still boarded up from that fire, but once inside, firefighters quickly put the flames out. LaRoche says while the cause of the fire is unknown, it’s believed it could have been caused by the poor storage of lithium batteries, which was the cause of the other fire in the house. No one was injured battling the blaze. Firefighters from Bourbonnais, Bradley, Kankakee Township and LImestone helped put the fire out.
