A Newton County Indiana Sheriff’s Deputy is hospitalized in critical condition and a suspect is dead after an incident Sunday night that started in Iroquois County, went into Indiana then ended near Sheldon, Illinois. In a press release, Illinois State Police say Iroquois County Sheriff’s Deputies were in pursuit of an armed suspect with a hostage Sunday night. That chase took them into Newton County Indiana, where Newton County Sheriff’s Deputies became part of the chase, which ended in Sheldon when the suspects car crashed. State Police say the suspect, identified at 37-year-old Andrew Roselius of Clifton, got out of the car and exchanged gunfire with police. Roselius reportedly died at the scene, while Newton County Sheriff’s Deputy Corporal Brandon Schreiber, a five-year veteran of the force, was shot and was taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital before being flown to the Carle Trauma Center in critical condition. State Police say they continue to investigate the incident.
