The unemployment rate in Kankakee County fell in September, down to 5.5 percent. That’s off from the 6 percent jobless rate recorded in August and lower than the 5.8 of a year ago. It’s the second consecutive month the Kankakee area has seen a decline in the number. Danville has the highest unemployment rate in the state at 6.9 percent, the Springfield area has the lowest jobless rate at 4.6 percent.
