Bradley police are remembering one of their own who died in the line of duty 27 years ago Wednesday. Sgt. Wilford Lewis was assisting Illinois state police at an early morning crash site on I-57 at exit 315 and was struck while standing on the side of the road by a driver who later said they were distracted by the emergency equipment. Lewis was rushed to St. Mary’s hospital where he was pronounced dead. He had just celebrated his 50th birthday the day before the incident. He was with the Bradley police department for 22 of those years.
