Trooper and Good Samaritans Save Crash Victim’s Life

Dec 13, 2024 | 8:22 AM

An Indiana State Trooper and an off duty Rensselaer paramedic are being credited with keeping a passenger in a vehicle that had crashed on I-65 yesterday alive until an ambulance could arrive on the scene.  But because of the icy roadways it took EMT’s 20 minutes to get to the accident scene a mile and a half south of State Road 10 at Demotte.  The vehicle had left the roadway, rolled over and struck a tree.  When trooper Martin Benner arrived he found the passenger unconscious and not breathing.  He began CPR and was soon joined by off duty paramedic Theron Bogan.  The two along with other good samaritans kept the victim alive until the EMS revived the victim and got him to the hospital.  Indiana State did not give the victims current condition.  Nobody else was hurt in the crash.
