Unemployment Down in Kankakee Last Month

Unemployment was down again in the Kankakee area in December.  The Illinois Department of Employment Security places the number at an even 5 percent, that’s down from November’s 5.2 percent and much lower than the 5.8 percent of December a year ago.  The Danville area has the highest unemployment rate in the state at 5.4 percent while the Champaign Urbana area has the lowest at 3.3 percent. The Kankakee area added some 400 jobs in the past year.
