Watseka Police Job Remains Unfilled, Why?

Jan 30, 2025 | 5:34 PM
It appears the municipal elections coming up in April have complicated Watseka’s search for a new police chief.  Current Chief Jeremy Douglas is retiring, but has agreed to stay on until March 1st for a transition.  The problem is nobody seems to want the job, at least not now.  Three candidates that were under consideration have withdrawn their names.  It’s believed the three withdrew for now because it’s the Mayor who has the power to appoint a police chief in Watseka and a new mayor will be taking over after the election.  Until then, the city council has appointed Lt. Mark Harris on an interim Chief.
